The Lab operates under a structured research project team system, wherein project leaders establish teams to coordinate and execute diverse activities and tasks associated with research projects. The Lab's research projects are primarily categorized into two distinct groups:

Projects Undertaken by the Lab:

(1) Lab-led Research Projects:

Under the guidance of the Director and Chief Experts, research teams have the autonomy to formulate their research plans, apply for research funding from the Lab or external sources, conduct in-depth studies on global risk politics. They are also encouraged to have their research findings of both academic and practical significance published in various formats.

(2) Independent Research Projects for Young Scholars:

The Lab encourages young scholars to initiate their own research projects on global risk politics by creating their own teams and roadmaps for research. The Lab aims to provide an enabling environment with adequate resources for exploratory research enterprises by helping young scholars apply for external funding, expand their influence in relevant fields and facilitate their advancement in academia.

(3) University-wide Collaborative Research Projects:

The Lab collaborates horizontally with other relevant research institutions within the university to jointly develop, design, and conduct research projects.

(4) Lab-assisted Research Projects:

Faculty members of Peking University are welcomed to initiate various risk-themed projects under the auspices of the Lab. These projects are different from those led by the Lab in that instead of undertaking projects, the Lab will mainly provide services according to faculty members’ needs, ranging from building academic networks and creating opportunities for in-depth collaboration to promoting their academic and societal influence. The Lab also provides software and hardware services for these "re-approved" research projects, including:

(1) Formation of interdisciplinary research teams.

(2) Training on theory and methodology.

(3) Assistance with data collection and algorithm development.

(4) Organization of academic seminars and workshops.

(5) Promotion of research findings to target audiences.

(6) Assistance with patent applications and development of application platforms.

(7) Other services as per project requirements.
