Risk perception and risk response are reshaping contemporary societies. Security, as the flip side of risk, is not only a political goal and commitment but has also become a global normative blueprint, even a global utopia. What was unforeseen previously is that, with the rapid accumulation of global wealth, science, information, and technology, security as a commitment and value is becoming increasingly challenging to attain.

Global risk politics revolves around the exercise of power in defining risks. Political forces balance and weigh the risk situations of different populations and countries, adhering to or distorting the scientific rationality of risk, ultimately determining how to reach a global political consensus and political agenda on risks. As an emerging field of study, global risk politics combines scientific and political processes, exploring the political logic and political solutions surrounding global risks. It delves into how global politics generates and addresses unevenly distributed risk situations and risk anxieties worldwide.
